A Snowball's Chance...

I've been wanting to write about the abuses that our neighbors have been facing since the invasions of Minnesota and Illinois as well as elsewhere in this United States of America. I don't really have anything to add other than express how absolutely disgusted I am about the whole situation.

Innocent people have been traumatized and killed over some imaginary lines on some dirt. It's disgusting me again while I'm writing this. Citizens are now expected to be better at the de-escalation of force than the people who are actually supposed to be meeting the confrontation of protest from a position of de-escalation. Instead the "trained professionals" are goading regular US citizens into their own imprisonment, or death. WTF indeed.
At the same time, there is something very reassuring about how the public has reacted to the obvious criminal activity perpetrated upon them by the various abusive authorities. While it's entirely possible that there has been some, there hasn't been much violence directed back at those authorities. Building neighborhood barriers to prevent unwanted travel is a valid reaction to the aggressive driving of ICE. Tossing water balloons at the mediocre "trolls" of the people protesting ICE is valid counter-counter protest especially in the winter weather. From where I sit, the trolling hasn't really elicited the reaction those lames have been hoping to engineer anyways. Demanding your elected officials to do something is also valid.
As someone who isn't living in the situation that our neighbors are, I'd like to think that if the time comes to do the right thing I'd be able to do it. I also think that "it" isn't something that would cost someone their livelihood or life, but rather righteous imprisonment at the extreme. The easiest way to help is just contributing with money when and where it's needed.
The charity that I chose to give a little bit to is still taking donations as of publication of this article. They are forwarding the proceeds to VEAP. The intention is to provide funding for people who have been unable to leave their house to work or shop. Through VEAP they can get some money to cover rent and food. The charity event was set up very quickly by some people in "games media" with connections to Minnesota, namely Giant Bomb and Minn Max. I'm not as familiar with Minn Max, but they seem to be good people too!
Before I sign off
I'd like to address something that I've become more aware of recently. For years we've known about the power that "right-wing media" has had in shaping the thoughts and minds of their readers/viewers/believers. Simultaneously, wondering why it isn't the same for "left-wing media." Some of the stuff that I've been exposed to recently from "the left" seems to focus almost entirely on the right wing and their various characters, personalities, and dumbasses. There is some schadenfreude in observing negative characters experiencing negativity as a result of their beliefs, or just some good old FAFO. I wish media types trying to build a coalition on the left could begin to focus on the positivity of resistance, instead of just making celebrities out of stupid, evil people. I can understand why more people would click on a thumbnail of someone with a different opinion or view, but I'm tired of those people being known to be unserious or seriously wrong and still getting promoted in my feeds.
Raising up your clout by riding the coattails of ignorance and evil shouldn't be the goal. In my eyes, the goal should be drawing the attention to the people who can use that power positively instead to build up something better than we had before.
What do I know, I only work here!
